Privacy Policy
Effective Date - 10/13/2024
1. Introduction
Welcome to the Critique Browser Extension. Critique is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our browser extension. By using Critique, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
2. Information We Collect
Critique may collect the following types of information:
a. Browsing Data
Critique may collect usage data related to your interactions with the extension, such as which pages you visit, frequency of feature usage, and browser environment data (e.g., browser type, extension version, and operating system). This data is used solely for improving the functionality and user experience of the extension and will never be exposed to third parties in any way.
b. Side Panel Data (Tab Context + Knowledge Graph)
Critique’s side panel feature accesses the content of the tabs you have open in real time. This includes text, images, and other content from the pages you are actively viewing. Critique uses this tab content as context to generate answers to your queries or assist in research without storing or transmitting any of the accessed content to external servers. The processing of this data happens ephemerally on our servers, but we have implemented strict protocols for this data not to persist. Additionally, Critique's knowledge graph feature will access the content of the tabs you have open, and store it in a vector database for later retrieval. This data is used to power the KG window feature, and can be wiped entirely at anytime upon request by the user.
c. Comment Analysis Data
When you use Critique’s features on platforms such as Reddit or YouTube, the extension may temporarily access content from public comments to verify information in real time. This content is analyzed locally and is not stored, transmitted, or retained after analysis.
d. Error and Performance Data
We may collect anonymized data about errors, crashes, and performance issues (such as feature failures or load times) to ensure that the extension functions correctly. This data may include diagnostic logs and performance metrics, but it does not contain any information from the pages you view or any personal data.
3. How We Use Your Information
The information we collect is used for the following purposes:
a. Service Enhancement
We use browsing data and performance data to continuously improve Critique’s functionality and user experience. All data is anonymized and analyzed in aggregate to identify patterns and resolve performance issues.
b. Personalized User Experience
Critique may use your local tab context to provide more relevant answers to your queries. This information is processed locally and is not stored or shared. For example, if you are reading an article, Critique may provide more specific fact-checking or context-aware assistance based on the content of that page, all while ensuring your data is not retained.
c. Security and Integrity
To protect the extension and its users from fraud, malicious activity, and unauthorized use. For this purpose, we may analyze anonymized diagnostic and performance data to detect and respond to security threats.
4. Data Sharing and Disclosure
Critique does not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your personal information to any outside parties. We may share anonymized data with third-party service providers (such as crash reporting tools) to assist in the operation and improvement of the extension, provided they agree to maintain the confidentiality of such data.
We do not transmit or store any of the content analyzed through the side panel feature, comment analysis, or local tab context features. All such data remains on your device and is processed in real-time without being transferred outside of your local environment.
5. Data Security
We implement a variety of security measures to maintain the safety of your personal information. Critique processes sensitive data locally on your browser and avoids storing or transmitting any personally identifiable information or web content. While we strive to use industry-standard practices to ensure your data is secure, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure.
